Sandstone coast of the east of Scotland offer a plethora of beautiful hidden gems and this is one not to be overlooked. Hidden amongst the cliffs, this perfectly sandy beach offers a remote escape to the crowds that flood the more accessible areas where the land meets the sea.

Stumbling across this spot on a grey September meant that we had the whole beach to ourselves. The historical ruins offered a week's worth of exploration but we opted for a wee bit of fishing from the cliffs near by followed by a cold plunge in the sea.

Estimated walking time: 30 minutes

Difficulty: Medium - steep and narrow to access the castle and beach, apart from that it is all on wide paths.
